Magaly and Kenneth Green’s Gift of Life Insurance Will Keep Hood Reaching for the Stars

Magaly Mauras Green ’74

Hood College played a pivotal role in the lives of Magaly Mauras Green ’74 and her late husband, Kenneth Green ’81, which is why they established a life insurance policy naming Hood as the beneficiary.

The couple met at Hood in 1974 when Magaly was finishing her bachelor’s degree and Kenneth was completing service in the U.S. Army. Kenneth earned his degree from Hood in 1981. After graduation, both enjoyed successful careers for the federal government.

Their planned gift will support Hood’s historic Williams Observatory.

“Kenny and I both loved that building,” Magaly says, noting they purchased their life insurance policy early in their marriage.

“We did not have many assets at the time, but we wanted to support Hood because of the difference our education made in our lives.”

Magaly, who also earned a master’s degree from Hood, has remained closely connected with the College through the years. Among other roles, she has served as chair of the Board of Associates, as well as the Alumnae Executive Board, and received Hood’s Excellence in Service Award in 2019.

Perhaps just as important, Hood is also where Magaly, as a student from Puerto Rico, first experienced snow and was able to enjoy driving a car for her student job.

Now, through her gift in Kenneth’s name, Magaly hopes to inspire other alumni to support the College.

“Gifts build on other gifts,” she says. “They are an outward sign and ‘thank you’ that shows the value you feel for your Hood education.”
