Ardine Gorden - Friend
Ardine Gorden passionately supports Hood College's music program. In memory of his wife Phyllis, he established a scholarship for students in the applied music program, music prizes for outstanding students, and a fund supporting two annual concerts at the College.
Phyllis was an accomplished violinist. Ardine, who is also a musician, began playing the trumpet when he was 8 years old and—at the age of 88, he was taking violin lessons.
Ardine grew up in Waterville, Maine. He attended Indiana Technical College in Ft. Wayne, Indiana; studied art at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas; and spent his junior year studying general education at Wingate College in North Carolina. He met Phyllis in Dallas; they married in Knoxville, Tennessee; and in 2000, he made Frederick his home. Ardine began his career working with his father performing electrical work and later became a proofreader and a mechanical illustrator.
Ardine with graduates
After years of giving to Hood College, Ardine became a Pergola Society member in 2014 when he informed the College that he had made Hood College the beneficiary of his trust to ensure that his generosity would continue to impact future generations of Hood students. Hood College is grateful for Ardine's commitment to enhancing the Hood community through his support.
Planned gifts like Ardine's make the Hood College experience enriching for students and the campus community. To learn more about making an impact through a planned gift, please contact Malinda (Lindy) Small ’81 at (301) 696-3977 or small@hood.edu.
